Nascar – Death of Sam Ard, double Xfinity champion

Sam Ard died this Sunday, April 2 at the age of 78 after battling Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. The American distinguished himself in Nascar by winning the Busch Series (former name of the Xfinity Series) twice in 1983 and 1984.

In 92 starts, he won 22 times, signing 67 top fives and 79 top tens for 24 poles. His career ended in October 1984 following an accident at the North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham. Sam Ard later became a team owner.

“No matter the track or the competition, he will have fought until the end. This fighter mentality has accompanied her throughout her life and well beyond a racing car. Sam fought on and off the track with the same ferocity that allowed him to win the two titles in the Championship now called the Xfinity Series, not to mention the numerous victories won in the Late Model Sportsman Series., indicated Nascar in a press release.
