Nascar – Newman and Richard Childress penalized for cheating

Ryan Newman and the No. 31 team were severely penalized after the race in Fontana (California) where the vice-champion took 5th place. The commissioners noticed that the tires had been reworked: tiny holes allowing constant pressure to be maintained were noted on the car.

Consequently, Ryan Newman lost 75 points in the Drivers classification while the Richard Childress was penalized with the same sanction in the Owners classification. Crew chief Luke Lambert must pay a fine of $125 (approximately €000) and has been suspended for the next six races while remaining on probation until the end of the year.

“We understand the seriousness of the penalty”, commented Torrey Galida, President of Richard Childress Racing. “Richard Childress Racing has been one of the most vocal opponents of the reworked tires since the rumors emerged last year. We will conduct a more in-depth analysis and evaluate our options for appealing when the Nascar will give us the details of the violation. »
