Ill, Alex Bowman had to give up his seat to Myatt Snider in Austin. The driver of NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series was in Texas for the FOX television network and was able to replace Bowman at the last minute. While his team, Hendrick Motorsports, did not initially disclose the nature of Bowman's ailments, they did so later in the week when the 32-year-old driver was forced to withdraw from the Phoenix round, where he was replaced by Anthony Alfredo.
Bowman is suffering from severe vertigo, which prevented him from finishing the Austin race. This same vertigo forced him to miss Phoenix and now this weekend's race in Las Vegas.
"Alex continues to work closely with doctors to obtain medical clearance, but he still has some persistent symptoms.", said Jeff Andrews, president and CEO of Hendrick Motorsports. "He has invested a lot in his recovery process, and we will continue to support him every step of the way. Our priority remains ensuring that Alex is fully fit before he gets back behind the wheel."
This isn't the first time Alex Bowman has been forced to step away from the track for medical reasons. In 2022, after an accident in Atlanta, he suffered a concussion and had to miss five races. The concussion is unrelated to the dizziness he is currently experiencing, explained the doctors who will determine whether or not he can return to racing.
JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier will be behind the wheel of the No. 48 Chevrolet this weekend. Allgaier participated in the Daytona 500 for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s team, and he was the one who replaced Kyle Larson in 2024 when the latter was unable to start the Charlotte race following the Indianapolis 500, in which he participated.
