American fans who enjoy consumer racing were well catered for this Sunday as the three major series, namely the NASCAR,IndyCar and IMSA experienced a similar outcome in their races! At Pocono, it was Chase Briscoe who fell on the side of the Toyota #19 winning his first victory since his high-profile move to Joe Gibbs Racing.
Yet, when Briscoe left his final pit stop a little too early, the die was cast, and not in his favor. The Indiana native managed to save his pace and stay ahead of Denny Hamlin, one of the specialists in the "Tricky Triangle," where he notably won the first two victories of his career, back in 2006. Briscoe was therefore satisfied to have been able to triumph under such pressure.
"There was a lot of pressure", he declared with a smile. “It was a little weird. I wasn't driving flat out, so it's not like I was on the limit, but it was so hard to have a guy chasing you, especially the greatest of all time here, trying to save fuel and everything else. It's an amazing day for our team. It's really the first race we've executed perfectly since the beginning of the year.”
Second, Denny Hamlin brought back a one-two for "Coach Gibbs" and consoled himself with the point for the fastest lap in the race. Chris Buescher (RFK Racing), third, was able to cheer up his boss, Brad Keselowski, who ended up ninth. The latter made a rare mistake, returning to the pits under a yellow flag... even though they were closed! The race leader, he had to restart in twenty-fifth position before the final sprint and made a great comeback to finally finish in the top 10.
For 23XI Racing, owned by Denny Hamlin and basketball legend Michael Jordan, the race quickly turned into a nightmare, due to brake problems that impacted all three of its cars. After a brake failure on Bubba Wallace's car, the team opted to replace the front discs on Tyler Reddick's No. 45 car as a precaution, which remains their best option for a championship run at the end of the season.
