Chase Elliott on pole at Daytona (road)

It must be said, Nascar is difficult to understand when you don't really know the discipline. The proof with the system used to define the starting grid for the race on the Daytona road layout.

Here, there is no question of a qualifying session where pole is won by the driver with the best time. Far from there. To define the poleman are taken into account: the position of the team in the standings (35%), the position of the team during the last race (25%), the position of the driver during the previous race (25% ) and the driver's fastest lap in the previous race (15%).

And after calculations, it is Chase Elliott of Hendrick Motorsports, and winner of the last four road races counting for the championship, who will start on pole at Daytona this Sunday. He will share the front row with Michael McDowell (Front Row Motorsports), winner of the 2021 edition of the Daytona 500.

Austin Dillon (Richard Childress Racing) completes the Top 3. He is ahead of Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing.

The second race of the season is scheduled for this Sunday at 21:00 p.m. (French time).
