Chase Elliott remains strongest at Watkins Glen

Starting from pole, Elliott had a calm start to the race, while the fight for the places of honor quickly intensified. While trying to attack William Byron (Hendrick Motorsports) at the first turn, Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) made a mistake and lost big in the first laps.

Enough to offer a first opening for Martin Truex Jr, returning in the wake of Elliott during the first laps of Stage 2. But the Joe Gibbs Racing driver will never find the opening, Elliott winning the first two stages, leading 80 of the 90 rounds on the program, before winning ahead of the 2017 champion.

Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) finished 3rd ahead of Erik Jones (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Ryan Blaney (Team Penske – Ford). The latter was at the heart of a skirmish with Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports), the two men exchanging words after the finish.
