Chase Elliott wins after choppy race in Texas

Elliott won after resisting three restarts at the end of the race, two of which extended the initially planned distance. Denny Hamlin (Gibbs) and Ross Chastain (Trakhouse) in particular broke their teeth there, ending up in the wall. Chase Elliott is the third Hendrick Motorsports driver to win this season, joining William Byron and Kyle Larson.

Brad Keselowski (RFK) finished second, while William Byron, Tyler Reddick (23XI) and Daniel Suarez (Trackhouse) completed the top 5 in an event that was extended by nine laps.

“Oh, it couldn’t be better!” I couldn't be more grateful for this adventure, which admittedly hasn't always been fun, but I've certainly enjoyed working with our guys. We worked really hard and really well together, which was always nice. We enjoyed fighting together”, he declared on Victory Lane.

This Sunday's event saw 16 neutralizations, a new record at Texas Motor Speedway. The track, particularly slippery, trapped a good part of the peloton throughout the 3 hours of racing.

The fourth Hendrick Motorsports driver, Alex Bowman, suffered an accident in the first half of the event, also involving Christopher Bell (Gibbs). The pilot of the Toyota No. 20 was able to finish in 17th position. Reigning champion Ryan Blaney (Penske) also saw the finish but eight laps behind the winner after also hitting the wall.

Disillusionment for Larson

The strong man of this ninth round of the season was undoubtedly Kyle Larson, who led 77 laps from pole position. The 2021 champion then lost his right rear wheel after a yellow flag pit stop. Penalized by NASCAR, Larson returned to the leader's lap at the end of the second segment, but a spin at the end of the event, leaving him in 21st place.

This Sunday, the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season heads to the biggest oval of the season, Talladega Superspeedway!
