By overtaking three leading competitors, Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing – Ford), Martin Truex Jr (Joe Gibbs Racing – Toyota) and Ryan Blaney (Team Penske – Ford), in the final lap of the Kentucky event, Cole Custer (Stewart-Haas Racing) made the decisive maneuver to pocket his first career victory in Nascar Cup Series
The rookie chose the top line of the track after the restart following the accident of Matt Kenseth (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet), before taking the advantage and controlling his rivals on the last part of the final lap.
Custer finished ahead of Truex Jr, Matt DiBenedetto (Wood Brothers Racing – Ford), Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch (Chip Ganassi Racing).
