Denny Hamlin in the snatch at Talladega

As usual, the Talladega (Alabama) oval will have offered a suspenseful scenario for the meeting counting for the 2020 Chase in Nascar Cup Series

Au terme de trois phases de prolongations, consécutives aux accidents en fin de course impliquant pour le premier Joey Logano (Team Penske – Ford), Kyle Busch et Martin Truex Jr (Joe Gibbs Racing – Toyota), Bubba Wallace (Richard Petty Motorsports – Chevrolet) pour le second, c’est finalement Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) who emerged victorious in the final sprint against Matt diBenedetto (Wood Brothers Racing – Ford).

A tiny gap of 23 thousandths, which however does not constitute the final result since diBenedetto is penalized after the finish for having forced William Byron (Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet) to pass below the yellow racing line.

Hamlin is therefore ahead of Erik Jones (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Ty Dillon (Germain Racing – Chevrolet) for the definitive top 3 of this second race of the second round of the Chase. With this seventh victory of the year, Hamlin takes the opportunity to secure his place for the next round, and thus joins Kurt Busch (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet) already qualified.

The latter did not have success yesterday, involved in the Big One on lap 108, where 11 cars were caught in the pileup, Busch seeing his car literally take off on Cole Custer's Ford.
