Erik Jones gave Joe Gibbs and Toyota their first victory this year in Nascar by winning the Busch Clash at Daytona.

Erik Jones wins Busch Clash at Daytona

Erik Jones won the Busch Clash in Daytona (Florida), this non-championship event which kicks off the season. Nascar Cup Series a week before the Daytona 500. The Joe Gibbs Racing resident took the lead on the last of the 88 laps of the race, taking advantage of a stroller from his teammate Denny Hamlin.

The driver of the No. 11 Camry was no longer in contention for “Victory Lane” after damaging his mount on lap 66 following contact with Chase Elliott (Chevrolet). The winner's car was also damaged during this collision.

“It was an incredible race, said Erik Jones. I have to give my thanks to Denny. It allowed me to go really faster. I didn't have the fastest mount, but we were able to achieve this success. I hope to get another one next Sunday. »

If Erik Jones managed to add the Daytona 500 to his record, he would only be the 5th driver to achieve the double with the Clash. It was his partner Denny Hamlin who was the last to achieve this feat in 2016.

The ensuing restart caused another pile-up right at the starting line, eliminating even more drivers able to win.

Austin Dillon (Chevrolet) finally took second place ahead of Clint Bowyer (Ford), while Kyle Larson (Chevrolet) and Ryan Newman (Ford) completed the Top 5. Denny Hamlin was the last driver to finish on the 18 engaged.
