Johnson will have a new team leader

Jimmie Johnson's poor results had a resounding impact on the world of Nascar. After 17 years of collaboration, Hendrick Motorsports has confirmed the end of the partnership between the seven-time champion and his crew chief Chad Knaus. The famous strategist of the No. 48 Chevrolet will work with William Byron from next year, replacing Darian Grubb who will become technical director.

Jimmie Johnson will be supported from next year by Kevin Meedening who is currently working on Elliott Sadler's car in the Nascar Xfinity Series within JR Motorsports.

“Chad and Jimmie have had their ups and downs over the last few years, it's no secret, confirmed Rick Hendrick, the boss of the team of the same name. They are fierce competitors, great friends who have a lot of respect for each other. They also fight like brothers. All three of us agreed that it was finally time for change for the benefit of all. »

“Chad and Jimmie will go down as one of the greatest tandems in the history of the sport. They have evolved to a level that no one could have ever imagined”, added Rick Hendrick.

Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus won 81 victories and seven titles in 598 races contested in the Nascar Cup Series.
