Johnson already passes second

Jimmie Johnson, four-time winner of the Nascar Sprint Cup Series, seems to be back for a year full of success. After three races, the Hendrick Motorsports driver has already won two, having won last night by overtaking Jeff Gordon with a few laps to go.

From the start of the race, it was Jeff Gordon who showed himself to be one of the fastest drivers on the Nevada oval. Starting in second position, the Californian took the reins of the race before the end of the first lap, pocketing the first five bonus points, after overtaking Kurt Busch. Jeff Gordon leads for 52 consecutive laps, a Las Vegas record.

If Jimmie Johnson seems to be enjoying a certain success, this is not the case for Juan Pablo Montoya, who is still prematurely deprived of a good final ranking. This time, it's his own teammate, Jamie McMurray, winner of the Daytona 500, who sends him into the background (watch in video). If McMurray apologized, recognizing that the accident was his responsibility, the former pilot of Formula 1 was no less furious at the end of the race. Incidentally, the accident between the two men also damaged the car of Kurt Busch, the pole sitter.

After several changes of leader, Jeff Gordon is still best placed to win in Las Vegas. Following a final neutralization, the Californian found himself, thirty laps from the end, battling with his teammate, Jimmie Johnson. The victory was decided between the two men, who took a few tenths ahead of the rest of the peloton, notably overtaking Clint Bowyer, leader at the last restart of the race.

With 17 laps remaining, Jeff Gordon is still there, after leading for 218 laps out of the 250 covered. But in the next passage, he cannot resist Jimmie Johnson, who takes the inside of the corner. He even lost his second place, overtaken by Kevin Harvick, while Jimmie Johnson triumphed for the second time this season.
