Nascar will not penalize its 31 drivers after Daytona

The commissioners of the Nascar had forced many teams to install new roof flaps on their Sprint Cup and Nationwide cars at Daytona, deeming them illegal. Officials suspected the teams involved of trying to gain weight to face the Florida oval before finally giving up, emphasizing that safety conditions had been respected. However, the leaders were keen to point out that the teams could not touch safety elements, particularly when they are supposed to prevent cars from flying away when they spin at high speed.

“We looked at this from every aspect and decided there would be no penalty.”, commented Robin Pemberton, Nascar vice-president of competition. “Following our inspections, we determined that the safety aspects of the roof flaps were not compromised and that on-track competition would not have had an impact. We will work with the manufacturer of these flaps (a division of Roush Industries) and the teams to evaluate and optimize the installation system by reviewing the process as a whole and communicating to the garage any revisions to be made. »

Among the drivers involved, there were still 16 Sprint Cup drivers: Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Trevor Bayne, Aric Almirola, Marcos Ambrose, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch , Denny Hamlin, Michael Waltrip, Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr., Jamie McMurray and Casey Mears.
