Nascar reviews its regulations following Ward Jr's accident

If the Nascar is not directly involved in the accident where Kevin Ward lost his life after being hit by Tony Stewart during a dirt track race held at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on August 9, Smoke's popularity caused a a real media earthquake. While the driver of the No. 14 Chevrolet announced that he would be withdrawing from Michigan, Robin Pemberton, Nascar's vice-president of competition, announced that the discipline would modify its regulations in order to avoid any price that such a tragedy does not happen again.

New article 9.16 of the Nascar regulations will prohibit drivers from being present on the track after getting out of their car. Competitors must remain in the passenger compartment while remaining strapped in until the marshals intervene and must then immediately move towards an evacuation vehicle without intervening with the racing cars. “ We have demonstrated in the past that we know how to react quickly”, said Robin Pemberton. Any penalties will be imposed on a case-by-case basis.
