Matt Kenseth will replace Kyle Larson at Chip Ganassi

Season 2020 of the Nascar remains suspended due to the coronavirus, but Chip Ganassi Racing has already announced that it will no longer run Kyle Larson in the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 42LE following an inappropriate word from the driver during a simulation race.

The team has therefore called on Matt Kenseth for the rest of the season. The Nascar veteran, Cup Series champion in 2003, retired in 2017 but quickly returned to the scene the following year by competing in a partial 15-race schedule with Roush Fenway Racing.

“This is an unexpected opportunity for me, confided Matt Kenseth. I can't say that running was part of my plans until two weeks ago. After spending time thinking about this and given the unique circumstances we are experiencing, it seemed like the timing and opportunity to return was perfect. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me to get back into rhythm on short notice, but I am up for the challenge. »

“I look forward to working with Kurt (Busch) again, meeting the new members of the CGR team and getting back behind the wheel of a Chevrolet, added the 42-year-old pilot. I started my career in 1988 in a Camaro. I have to thank Chip and his partners for this offer. I hope we can get back on track soon. »

Matt Kenseth has 665 starts in the Nascar Cup Series and 39 victories, including two successes at the Daytona 500 in 2009 and 2012. He has already received clearance to participate in the playoffs after missing the start of the season. Nascar has still not given a date for the resumption of the discipline despite the will of the organizers.
