McMurray wins the Brickyard 400

Ganassi Racing had a fabulous weekend. His cars were once again the fastest on the long Indianapolis circuit. Starting from pole, Juan Pablo Montoya was keen to win his first oval (what's more, on one of the most prestigious American circuits). Having led more than half of the race, the Colombian may have regrets about his end of the race.

The former pilot of F1 did not take the right strategy by changing his four tires at the last stop, while the peloton made do with just one pair. He leaves in the middle of the pack, overdrives to catch up and goes understeering in turn 4 to hit the wall on the 145th lap. The Colombian just has to return to the pits to retire and leave the hopes of Ganassi Racing on the shoulders of Jamie McMurray.

The final fight is between Kevin Harvick, leader of the Championship in his Richard Childress Chevrolet, and Montoya's teammate. The driver of the No. 29 first took the advantage, which disconcerted the Ganassi Racing man. “ When Kevin passed me a few laps from the end, I thought it was over », Commented the winner of the race. “ But that ultimately wasn't the case. We have become a big team now ».

« Honestly, when Juan was leading and I was second, I thought it would stay that way. I won the Daytona 500, Dario (Franchitti) the 500 (Indianapolis), and I thought Juan was going to win this one. I can't believe I was able to win both races in the same year ". Harvick therefore finished second and consolidated his first place in the standings, while Greg Biffle finished third in his No. 16 Ford. Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart finished fourth and fifth respectively. The top ten is completed in order by Jeff Burton, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano and Kurt Busch.
