Nascar – Alex Bowman wins Daytona 500 pole

The qualifying session for the Daytona 500, the first event of the Nascar Cup Series, smiled this Sunday at Alex bowman.

The new resident of the No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro – Hendrick Motorsports, replacing Dale Earnhardt Jr (author of the pole last year), was the fastest by completing a lap of the Florida oval in 46 "002.

The former resident of Tommy Baldwin Racing is 130 thousandths ahead of Toyota Camry No. 11 – Joe Gibbs Racing Denny Hamlin. The 500 Daytona 2016 winner will accompany Bowman on the front row next Sunday at the green flag.

Only these two drivers are in fact assured of their starting position for the event, the other places on the grid being determined by the Can-Am Duels contested over 60 laps this Thursday.

Duel 1 will bring together the cars holding the odd positions at the end of this Sunday qualifying session, with Duel 2 bringing together the cars holding the even positions.

In the rest of the standings, Jimmie Johnson (No. 48 Chevrolet – Hendrick Motorsports) ranks third, 0 seconds behind Bowman and ahead of Kyle Busch (No. 215 Toyota – Joe Gibbs Racing) and William Byron (No. 18 Chevrolet – Hendrick). Motorsports). The best Ford Fusion climbs to eighth position with Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing).

Kurt Busch (No. 41 Ford – Stewart-Haas Racing), winner of the Daytona 500 in 2017, set the 17th time. Outgoing champion, Martin Truex Jr (Toyota n°78 – Furniture Row Racing) finished 26th, while Danica Patrick (Chevrolet n°7 – Premium Motorsports) took 28th place.
