NASCAR – Carl Edwards passes between the drops at Bristol

The Roush Fenway driver was finally able to perform his backflip, the traditional celebration of the Roush Fenway driver when he advances on Victory Lane. At the end of a race where interruptions due to rain punctuated the event, Carl Edwards won his 22nd career success and therefore found himself almost qualified for the playoffs, under the new 2014 regulations. Carl Edwards signed also a 3rd top 10 in 2014.

Yet it is Denny Hamlin and the Toyota of Joe Gibbs Racing who were the fastest in qualifying. After a delay of almost two hours due to rain, the drivers set off to attack the World's Fastest Half-Mile. Brad Keselowki (Penske) quickly showed up at the front, before seeing Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs) take the lead just before the interruption on the 118th lap, again caused by downpours of water. More than three hours of waiting will then begin before seeing the cars on the track again. At the restart, Kenseth and Timmy Hill clashed following another interruption in the race and the 2003 champion's Toyota was largely damaged. Despite this, Kenseth will return to the lead on lap 285, proving that he has a car to win this weekend.

The race will be decided on a strategic decision on the 423rd lap, after a new yellow flag caused by Martin Truex Jr. Edwards, Almirola, Hamlin and Stenhouse Jr. decide not to return to the pits to change tires with 71 laps to cover. Good pick, since the three Ford cars of Edwards, Almirola and Stenhouse will escape. A final controversial neutralization two laps from the goal, since “intervened following a malfunction on the circuit” according to Steve O’Donnell, vice president of runway operations for the NASCAR, finally allowed Carl Edwards to win his first victory in 2014. at the moment when the rain reappeared, somewhat obscuring the disagreement caused at the end of the race by this yellow flag at the unexpected start, but justified in view of the weather report. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished 2nd for a double for the Fords of Roush Fenway and Aric Almirola (Richard Petty) completed a hat-trick for the engines of the blue oval. Next for the top 10, Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas), Marcos Ambrose (Richard Petty), Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs), Jeff Gordon (Hendrick), Kasey Kahne (Hendrick), Brian Vickers (Michael Waltrip), Kyle Larson (Ganassi).

Dale Earhnardt Jr. (Hendrick), 24th yesterday, loses the overall lead to Brad Keselowki (Penske)
