Nascar – Carl Edwards takes a step back

As of yesterday, the American media reported that Carl edwards was about to announce his withdrawal tests Nascar This year. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver confirmed the information today during a press conference.

The driver from Missouri has never won the major title in the discipline, failing in 2011 in second place behind Tony Stewart, crowned in the number of victories. Long a resident of Roush Fenway Racing (2004-2014), Carl Edwards joined Joe Gibbs' armada in 2015, and was also known for his celebrations of success, by performing a backflip from his car.

“I’m taking a step back from driving full-time in the Cup Series, explains Edwards, winner three times in 2016. Now is a good time for me to head towards new adventures in my life. This was a very difficult decision for me, but I am convinced that it is the right one.

I couldn't have a better racing situation than I have right now. Moving away from that clearly took a lot of thought. I have many interests in life outside of sports that deserve my attention and I am convinced that now is the right time to do so.

I have been running for over 20 years. It's amazing all the opportunities racing, and Nascar in particular, and the people I've met and the things I've been able to do. I am very grateful for all of this.

I am satisfied with my career and my achievements, because racing for me was not just about winning trophies. Of course I love winning, but there is a thrill of entering a corner at 300km+ competing against the best in the world.

Of course, there are risks in running that I don't consider normal, and I'm happy to be able to retire from the sport healthy. I just think it's hard to start the next chapter of your life before closing this one. »

Joe Gibbs Racing a confirmé l’identité du remplaçant d’Edwards. Daniel Suárez, champion Xfinity Series 2016, pilotera la Toyota Camry n°19 en 2017 dans la première division de la Nascar.
