Nascar – Dale Earnhardt Jr out for the rest of the season

Hendrick Motorsports has announced that Dale Earnhardt Jr will be out of the remainder of the 2016 season. Nascar Sprint Cup Series. The driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet, who has been absent since last July's Kentucky race, was benched after suffering symptoms resembling a concussion.

“I would have liked to return to the No. 88 this season. It would be an understatement to say I'm disappointed, but I know it's the right decision for my long-term health and my career., commented Dale Earnhardt Jr. I am fully focused on my recovery and will continue to follow the doctors' instructions. My results show good progress and I feel it physically. I plan to be fit and ready to race for Daytona, Florida in February. »

Jeff Gordon, who came out of retirement to replace the son of the seven-time, four-time Nascar Sprint Cup champion of the same name, will be called upon again in the next two events in Darlington (South Carolina) and Richmond ( Virginia). The four-time champion will share the wheel of the No. 88 Chevrolet with Alex Bowman for the remainder of the season.

This announcement does not upset the Chase since Dale Earnhardt Jr did not achieve a victory giving him qualification for the play-offs. If his replacement with four titles were to win in one of the last two races of the regular season, he would still not be able to obtain a place for the final phase since he only scored 99 points during his four participations and that he should secure a place in the top 30 of the Drivers ranking.
