Dale Earnhardt Jr will not return to the wheel of his No. 88 Chevrolet in 2018. The son of the seven-time champion of the same name has announced his retirement from the Nascar at the end of the season after having played 18 seasons and 600 starts at the highest level of the competition.
The Hendrick Motorsports press release indicates that the two-time Daytona 500 winner and Rick Hendrick, the owner of the team of the same name, began discussions about his departure on Wednesday, March 29.
Dale Earnhardt Jr's future was in question last year following a concussion forcing him to miss half the season. To date, he has 26 wins, 149 top fives, 253 top tens and 13 poles in 603 starts. His best season dates back to 2003 when he finished in 3rd place.
