A few weeks after returning to the Monster Energy scene Nascar Cup Series with Hendrick Motorsports after missing half of the 2016 season following a concussion, Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced his upcoming retirement at the end of 2017.

A somewhat unexpected officialization after his return, but thoughtful according to the driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet. “It’s really simple: I just wanted the opportunity to leave on my own terms. » said Dale Jr during his press conference.

The latter, however, admits to not wanting to completely abandon motorsport, with an involvement that will be certain in the years to come after his last outings in 2017.

“I don’t really see myself moving away from Nascar. My intention is still to be involved in the sport at some level... Even after this season ends, it won't be the last time you see me on a circuit. But more than that, I want to be part of the future of the sport for years to come. »

In addition to his involvement with Hendrick Motorsports as driver of the No. 88, Dale Earnhardt Jr is also the owner of the JR Motorsports team, present in the Xfinity Series. Dale Jr could compete in two races in 2018 in the second division of the Nascar Series.
