Nascar – Earnhardt Jr escapes Daytona crash

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Hendrick) scored his second victory of the season by winning the Coke Zero 400 held at the Daytona International Speedway (Florida). The son of the seven-time champion who died on this oval remained at the forefront with nearly a hundred laps completed in the lead in an event postponed for several hours due to the weather.

The Coke Zero 400 was marked by a terrible accident during the “green-white-checkered flag”, which froze the positions. Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs), 3rd behind Jimmie johnson (Hendrick), spun at the final restart, causing a “Big One” where Austin dillon (Richard Childress Racing) flew straight into the fence which did not resist the impact.

The images are striking as debris flies towards the public. Miraculously, the damage is minimal since only one person was hospitalized in stable conditions. Four others were treated at the scene.
