It is true that Gill Linster, the author of the surprise pole this morning, was very quickly forced to retire, stranded on the circuit. The Italian crossed the line with more than half a second ahead of Martin Doubek and almost a second ahead of Thomas Krasonis. Even if he did not seem really threatened during the 15 revolutions of this event, the member of the team managed by Alex Caffi, was nonetheless not less deserving of credit for it:
« We had barely set off when the gear lever knob came off. This distracted me a bit, but I was patient and changed gears by grabbing the lever rod. In the end, I didn't lose too much time and even kept a good gap on Martin (Doubek, Editor's note). It's a shame that Gill (Linster, Editor's note) couldn't join in the fight. I don't know why he was forced to retire. »
2nd, Martin Doubek has however made a good operation in the championship since before tomorrow's race, he has a 45-point lead over Patrick Schröder, who could not help but go through a gravel trap which made him drop from 5th to 8th place. As for Thomas Krasonis, he was coming to terms with this 3rd place:
"JI feel like I was a little faster than Martin (Doubek, Editor's note) but I lacked the power to overtake him. And then, there was no point in pushing the limits at the end of the race with this rain that appeared in some corners. See you tomorrow for the final. »
