NASCAR – Jeff Gordon at the end of the night

Once again, the rain disrupted the events by NASCAR Sprint Cup. The start was postponed by 35 minutes due to storms. Once started, the event, contested at night for the first time in Kansas, saw pole sitter Kevin Harvick dominate the first part of the race and reach a lead of almost three seconds in the lead. But the driver of the No. 4 Stewart Chevrolet-Haas Racing, which appeared very strong in qualifying, decided to stop under a green flag. Bad pick since in the process, Marcos Ambrose causes a new interruption on the 110th lap. Thrown back to the back of the pack, Harvick will take a hundred laps to return to the front of the stage.

Little by little, Harvick caught up, and after the restart of lap 207 found himself in control of the race ahead of Joey Logano (Penske). But with 40 laps to go, when a final refueling was necessary for the No. 4 Chevy SS, it almost broke down when arriving in the pits, which Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports) took advantage of to move into head. The four-time champion will benefit from the last stops of the drivers who tried to go to the end, including Johnson (Hendrick), to take the lead while Harvick tries one last time to come back. He will fail 112 thousandths on the line. Gordon, already the leader upon arriving in Kansas, won his 89th career success, which almost guaranteed him a place in the Chase. It is also his first success since Martinsville at the end of 2013.

Harvick is second ahead of Kasey Kahne (Hendrick), Joey Logano, Dale Earnhardt Jr (Hendrick) who completes the top 5. Note the very good race of Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas) who finishes in 7th position, her best result in career. The next round of the Sprint Cup Series will be the famous Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte on May 25.
