On a resurfaced route in Texas, Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet) scored a seventh victory on the Fort Worth track, and offers his first success of the year, the first since his victory in Miami last year which gave him his seventh crown.
Johnson's weekend did not start in the best way, with qualifying where driver Hendrick made a mistake. Rick Hendrick's team made a tire change on the No. 48 Chevrolet, forcing the reigning champion to start the race from the back of the grid.
If Ryan Blaney (Wood Brothers Racing – Ford) had dominated the first two segments of the event, Jimmie Johnson, back at the front, did not miss his chance by taking the advantage over Joey Logano (Team Penske – Ford ) on the 318th lap before winning ahead of Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet), again second, and Logano.
Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing – Ford) and Dale Eanrhardt Jr (Hendrick Motorsports) complete the top 5 in the race.
