Nascar – Joe Gibbs prefers Vickers to Martin

Joe Gibbs Racing surprised by naming Mark Martin to replace Denny Hamlin who suffered a fractured L1 vertebra following his accident at Fontana. The team reversed its decision by preferring Brian Vickers. Mark Martin and Brian Vickers share the wheel of the No. 55 Camry entered by Michael Waltrip Racing this season. The veteran of the Nascar sera tout de même au départ à Martinsville le week-end prochain avec la Toyota n°11 mais il cèdera ensuite sa place à son coéquipier pour les manches suivantes jusqu’au retour du titulaire qui espère revenir pour l’épreuve de Darlington prévue le 11 mai.

“We rushed a bit regarding Martin’s availability after Martinsville”, commented JD Gibbs in a press release. “We are very excited to have the opportunity to have Brian drive in our Sprint Cup cars. Since he already drives for us in the Nationwide Series, we think this continuity is beneficial. Certainly, choosing a replacement for Denny is not an ideal situation. We have to look at the drivers who are available and able to ride for our team and our manufacturer. »
