Après avoir signé le meilleur temps des essais libres, Joey Logano (Joe Gibbs Racing) signe la pole des Pocono 400 en signant un chrono de 50 »112 qui devient le nouveau record de la piste suite au resurfacement de cette dernière. Le pilote de la Toyota n°20, qui s’élançait en 18e position, devance de plus de deux dixièmes Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing), Paul Menard (Richard Childress Racing), Kyle Busch et Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) qui complètent le top cinq. “I had a great car, Jason (Ratcliff, the crew chief) did a fantastic job all week”, comments the pole sitter. “It's good to get the pole and the track record, I hope to keep it for a little while.
