Nascar – Johnson continues in Bristol

Postponed for one day due to rainy weather in Bristol (Tennessee), Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) won his second consecutive victory of the season after his success the previous weekend in Fort Worth (Texas) by winning the Food City 500.

The seven-time champion of Nascar Cup Series won for the second time on the half-mile oval after a first victory in 2010 and signed the 82nd success of his career. The driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet is only one victory away from Cale Yarborough and two wins from Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip.

Jimmie Johnson led the race for 81 laps to win ahead of Clint Bowyer (Stewart-Haas Racing) who achieved his best result since 2013, even if he finished more than a second behind the winner. The top five was completed by teammate Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Joey Logano (Team Penske).

Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing), Food City 500 pole sitter after qualifying was canceled, salvaged a 6th place finish and retained the lead in the Drivers' standings after falling to 17th following a penalty for excessive speed in the stands. The driver of the No. 42 Chevrolet nevertheless led the first third of the event and thus won the first segment, while 2nd went to Martin Truex Jr (Furniture Row Racing), 8th behind Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports ).
