Nascar – Johnson extends with Hendrick

Jimmie Johnson has extended his contract with Hendrick Motorsports until 2020. The seven-time champion Nascar Cup Series, who made his debut at the highest level of the discipline in 2001 with Rick Hendrick's team after benefiting from the help of Jeff Gordon, has made 557 starts to date with the same team. Its main sponsor Lowe's also confirmed the extension of its partnership.

“My relationships with Lowe's, Hendrick Motorsports and all of my teammates mean so much to me, comments Jimmie Johnson. I still remember the time when I dreamed of only winning one race. It was inconceivable to imagine winning 83 events and 7 titles and we now have the chance to be able to do even more. It shows a lot to have a sponsor, a crew chief (Chad Knaus) and a team for so long. »

“Jimmie is one of the best drivers, adds Rick Hendrick, the owner of the stable of the same name. We are so lucky to have him with us and I feel even luckier to be his friend. He is a magnificent champion, a superb showcase for Lowe's and a true ambassador of Nascar. There is no person better than him and he has never been at such a level. »

Jimmie Johnson would become Nascar's greatest champion if he wins an 8th title, the Hendrick Motorsports driver having tied Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty with his 7th coronation last year. The driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet is currently leading the Championship, being the only one with 3 victories this season.
