Nascar – Kasey Kahne wins the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis

It was 102 races that Kasey kahne (Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet) had no longer appeared on Victory Lane in a race event. Nascar Cup Series. The driver from Rick Hendrick's team finally found his way to victory in one of the most beautiful ways possible, by winning on the Indianapolis oval.

The driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet SS took advantage of a pit stop on the 150th lap, just before an interruption in the race following the accident involving Clint Bowyer (Stewart)Haas Racing – Ford),  Kurt Busch (Stewart-Haas Racing) et Erik Jones (Furniture Row Racing – Toyota).

A few moments later, the peloton returned to the pits, leaving Kahne to emerge in the lead, before the latter faced a hectic end to the race marked by several neutralizations pushing the race into overtime.

Note the incidents of Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet), Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports), then fighting with Kahne and Brad Keselowski (Team Penske – Ford) for first place, or the collective crash involving among others Aric Almirola (Richard Petty Motorsports – Ford), Trevor Bayne (Roush Fenway Racing – Ford) or Ryan Blaney (Wood Brothers Racing – Ford).

On the last restart, and before nightfall, Kahne managed to get ahead of Keselowski at the first corner before Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing – Toyota) caused a final yellow flag, but the leader having crossed the overtime line, the result was confirmed with the first success since 2014 for Kahne.

Keselowski finished second ahead of Ryan Newman (Richard Childress Racing – Chevrolet), Joey Logano (Team Penske) and Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing). Winner of the first two segments, Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing), double title holder upon arriving in Indiana, seemed set to repeat his performance but the 2015 champion was taken into the wall by Martin Truex Jr (Furniture Row Racing) , ending its hopes of hugging the famous Brickyard for the third year in a row.
