NASCAR – The big jump for Anthony Kumpen

Reward of his 2014 coronation in the Whelen Euro Series, the Belgian Anthony Kumpen made its debut on American soil this weekend in Florida, not far from Daytona, on the New Smyrna Speedway as part of the Daytona Speedweeks. After a first race in Late Models, accompanied by his compatriot and teammate at PK Carsport, Bert Longin, the winner of the 24 2009 Hours of Spa took part au rendez-vous d’ouverture des K&N Pro Seris East sur la Toyota Camry n°99 du Bill McAnally Racing. Fourteenth at the finish, the 36-year-old driver somewhat regretted his missed qualifying and contact on the track in the final moments.

" It was very interesting. The only problem came from my mistake in qualifying, which made me start in 23rd place. With each lap I felt more and more comfortable in the car and with my race pace, and we gained places. I would have liked to have finished in the top 10, but it was a fantastic experience. The team was great, and we had great support from NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and Jérôme and Anne Galpin. I am very happy and I hope to come back very soon. ". The president of the Whelen Euro Series, Jérôme Galpin, remained satisfied and emphasized that Kumpen's performance demonstrated the level reached by the European series.

The next challenge for Anthony Kumpen begins on April 25-26 in Valencia, Spain, for the defense of his Whelen Euro Series title.
