Nascar – The stakes for Richmond

After 25 events since the Daytona 500 last February, the twenty-sixth round of the Nascar Sprint Cup Series 2016 this weekend in Richmond, Virginia will mark the end of the regular season, before the start of the final stages, the famous Chase, at the Chicagoland race on September 18.

Seize pilotes poursuivront alors leur quête de titre, mais seul douze d’entre eux sont pour le moment connus avant Richmond : Brad Keselowski (Team Penske – Ford), le champion en titre Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing – Toyota), Carl Edwards (Joe Gibbs Racing), Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet), Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing), Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing – Chevrolet), Kurt Busch (Stewart-Haas Racing), Joey Logano (Team Penske), Martin Truex Jr. (Furniture Row Racing – Toyota), Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing), Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet) and Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing).

Four places therefore remain to be allocated at the end of this weekend, and Chris Buescher (Front Row Motorsports – Ford), winner at Pocono in Pennsylvania, must still secure the top 30 overall to enter the Chase.

For their part, Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports), Ausitn Dillon (Richard Childress Racing – Chevrolet) and Jamie McMurray (Chip Ganassi Racing) are currently qualified thanks to points. The latter can qualify by securing a victory, or count on the fact that Chris Buescher does not enter the final top 30.

The situation will be more complicated for Ryan Newman (Richard Childress Racing), second in the 2014 championship, or Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports) who must win, otherwise their destiny will depend on their position at the finish against their rivals.

However, victory will be mandatory for Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas Racing), Greg Biffle (Roush Fenway Racing – Ford) or even Clint Bowyer (HScott Motorsports – Chevrolet), to name a few, to hope to see the Chase.
