Six years and 218 races. This is how long it took Martin Truex Jr. to return to victory. In the history of Nascar, only Bill Elliott showed more patience, waiting for 226 starts from 1994 to 2001. By winning this weekend on the street circuit of Sonoma, California, the Michael Waltrip Racing driver put an end to a long period of doubt. This is his second victory at the highest level of Nascar. Behind him are Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports) and Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing). The latter signed a good operation here in the Drivers' championship since he took 6 points from Jimmie Johnson, the current leader, who concluded the Californian race in 9th place.
In addition to Juan-Pablo Montoya, another former pilot of F1 came to freelance in Sonoma: Jacques Villeneuve. It is clear that the two were not very polished. Second at the start of the last lap, the Colombian ran out of fuel and lost everything in the last seconds of the race. As for the 1997 world champion, he was only able to complete 19 laps before encountering a mechanical problem.
