Nascar – Matt Kenseth beats Kyle Busch in Chicago

The pilots of the Nascar Sprint Cup had to be patient while competing in the Geico 400, the first event of the Chase which was interrupted for more than five hours following heavy downpours. Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing) emerged from the winner of the duel between him and his teammate Kyle Busch in the final laps and thus won his sixth victory of the season, the 30th of his career, by winning for the first time times at Chicagoland Speedway. “I always wanted to establish myself here. It's only two hours from where I grew up in Wisconsin. I am finally celebrating this success here after having often passed close by,” commented the winner who deprives his teammate of a hat-trick after the latter won in the Truck Series and Nationwide.

The Joe Gibbs team confirms its excellent performances on the 1,5 mile ovals by signing a double in front of the Chevrolets of Kevin Harvick (Richard Childress Racing), Kurt Busch (Furniture Row Racing), Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsport) . With Clint Bowyer (Michael Waltrip Racing) and Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing) completing the top ten ahead of Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) and Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsport), most of the Chasers successfully entered the play-offs with ten title contenders in the first 12 places. On the other hand, the Chase got off to a bad start for Joey Logano (Penske Racing), poleman of the event, and Dale Earnhardt Jr (Hendrick) who had to retire following mechanical problems.
