The cars of the Nascar Sprint Cup could have a new aero package before the end of the season. The downforce would be further reduced in order to complicate driving and improve the spectacle.
These changes could be implemented as early as the Kentucky race scheduled for July 11, after officials considered experimenting with them in the All-Star Race held in Charlotte last month, the event not counting towards the championship.
Steve O'Donnell, executive vice-president of Nascar, raised the possibility of having specific packages for different types of ovals ("short track", "superspeedway", etc.) by pointing out the high speeds of the cars in turns.
A first version of the package planned for 2016 was tested in Charlotte (North Carolina) earlier in the season. " I really liked. It felt like it was the first time I could really control the car. It was like that when I arrived in competition, we drove more with our two feet”, explained the driver of Hendrick’s No. 5 Chevrolet, quoted on the official Nascar website.
