NASCAR – What is the All-Star Race?

Ahead of the famous 600-mile Coca-Cola 600 race in Charlotte on May 25, the Sprint Cup Series arrives in the capital of the world NASCAR for the All-Star Race. A non-championship event, this very special lifting of the calendar deserves a little presentation.

Drivers who won a race in 2013 or 2014 are eligible to participate in this million-dollar race. Former NASCAR champions over the last ten years are also automatically qualified, as are former winners of the All-Star Series. Star Race. Finally, three other pilots are added. The top two in the Sprint Showdown, a “qualifying” race contested before the All-Star Race between non-automatically qualified drivers, as well as a driver designated by fan vote.

What about racing? Action is the key word in this ordeal. Four races of 20 laps are organized. At the exit, the average positions during the first four parts are noted and constitute the order according to which the competitors will rush into the pit lane for the obligatory refueling. The order of exit from the pits determines the positions for the restart of the last 10 laps where the winner pockets the million dollars.

Last year, future champion Jimmie Johnson won at the wheel of his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.
