Nascar – Ryan Newman regains pole at Indianapolis

Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing) won the 50th pole of his career by setting the new lap record on the Indianapolis oval after being the last driver to start on the track. After learning that he would lose his steering wheel at the end of the season to Kevin Harvick, the driver of the No. 29 Chevrolet distinguished himself on this famous circuit. “I have to admit it's quite emotional for me because it's at the Brickyard and I've never had a pole here before. I had to wait a long time to get a pole again (the first since 2011 in New Hampshire). The pit lane is very long but narrow. Being at the bottom will be a real advantage. »

Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) will start alongside him on the front row after failing just 24 thousandths behind the poleman. “I missed turn 2 a little. But Ryan managed to get through his four corners in superb fashion. I am happy for him and his team. » Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) follows in third place, while Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) completes the second row, aiming only for victory to hope to grab a place in the Chase. Tony Stewart places his team's second Chevrolet in the top five.

Kurt Busch (Furniture Row Racing) remains at the forefront by taking sixth position ahead of Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports), Juan-Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing) and Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports). Marcos Ambrose (Richard Petty Motorsports) completes the top ten ahead of the Penske Racing Fords driven by Joey Logano and defending champion Brad Keselowski. Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas Racing) will start from 33rd place.
