NASCAR – Sprint will not extend its contract beyond 2016

At the end of 2016, the first series of the NASCAR will change its name. After the Winston Cup Series and the NEXTEL Cup Series, Sprint, an American telecommunications company, became the title sponsor in 2008, after merging with NEXTEL which had been the partner between 2004 and 2007.

“NASCAR and Sprint have had a long and successful partnership that has produced significant value for both parties, explains Brett Jewkes, communications manager and vice president of NASCAR. We understand the significant changes within Sprint and the highly competitive environment in which it is involved, which has led to a decision not to extend its involvement beyond the 2016 season. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is a platform unique marketing with strong momentum, so we are very confident moving forward in 2017 with an exceptional new partner. »

It's a time of change for the NASCAR championships, as the second division, known until this year as the Nationwide Series, will take the name of the Xfinity Series in 2015.
