Nascar – Stewart avoids damage at Daytona

Tony Stewart signs his third victory of the season after starting from the back of the grid. Officials decided to penalize the reigning champion after discovering an illegal cooling system on the No. 14 Chevrolet. This did not prevent Smoke from moving up the positions one by one to find himself at the front in the final laps. The 2011 champion was drafted by Jeff Burton (Richard Childress Racing) who took second place. The top two were neck and neck with Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle, the two Roush Fenway Racing teammates, but the driver of the No. 16 Ford made a mistake causing a pileup that shook up the standings on the very last lap. .

Matt Kenseth was still able to finish in the top three ahead of Joey Logano (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing). Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) took sixth place ahead of Hendrick Motorsports lead driver Kasey Kahne and Penske lead driver Brad Keselowski. Teammate AJ Allmendinger did not compete in the Daytona race after being suspended for a positive drug test. Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) started at the front but the five-time Sprint Cup champion retired after violently hitting the wall.
