Nascar – Truex Jr opportunist in Las Vegas

Martin Truex Jr (Furniture Row Racing) won the Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Nevada) after dominating the race on the 1,5 mile oval by winning in all three segments. The pilot of the Toyota No. 78 seemed to be beaten by Brad Keselowski (Team Penske) who had taken the advantage in the final laps, but the winner of the Atlanta (Georgia) event last week encountered mechanical problems affecting his steering and his brakes condemning him to 5th place.

Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing) took 2nd place ahead of Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports).

Joey Logano (Team Penske) finished in 4th place, but the driver of the No. 22 Ford greatly animated the end of the race due to contact with Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing). The 2015 champion of the Nascar Cup Series finished its race in the pits taking only 22nd place. What followed was a fight between the driver of the No. 18 Toyota and part of the Team Penske team.

Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing) retired before the end of the first segment. The driver of the Chevrolet hit the wall after seeing his right front tire burst.

Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) only took 11th place after delaying his penultimate stop. This is the first time the seven-time champion has missed the top ten in three consecutive starts.
