Nascar – Truex Jr wins ahead of Harvick

Martin Truex Jr gave Furniture Row Racing their second victory of the season by winning the Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway (South Carolina). The pilot of the Toyota #78 took the lead of the race with less than 30 laps to go and made a good stop to regain control around ten laps from the checkered flag.

The Furniture Row Racing resident notably took advantage of Kevin Harvick's (Stewart-Haas Racing). The 2014 champion came out of the pits in fifth place due to a gun problem during tire changes and was only able to secure the second place to which he seems subscribed for several seasons. The Chevrolet driver passed the milestone of 10 laps spent in the lead after leading for 000 laps out of the 214 in the race.

Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing), Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Joey Logano (Team Penske) rounded out the top five.

Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) had a tough race. Penalized with a drive-through for an illegal modification made by a mechanic, the six-time champion then spun before hitting the wall at turn 4 and finally ranked 33rd.

Jamie McMurray occupies 16th position in the Drivers' standings, the last place allowing him to acquire a place in the Chase, before the last event of the season in Richmond (Virginia) contested on September 10. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver has a seven-point lead over Ryan Newman (Richard Childress Racing).
