NASCAR – Grand jury to rule on Tony Stewart case

Last Sunday, August 10, Kevin Ward Jr was killed at the Canadaigua Motorsports Park near Watkins Glen (New York) in an accident during a Sprint Car race in which the pilot was involved NASCAR Tony Stewart. If at first, no charges were brought against the three-time Sprint Cup Series champion, Ontario District Attorney Michael Tantillo ultimately decided to refer the matter (with or without prosecution) to a grand jury. This decision comes a few days after the end of the investigations carried out by Sheriff Philip Povero.

“As grand jury proceedings in New York State are strictly confidential, I am unable to say when the matter will be submitted. I plan to feature it in the near future. Likewise, due to the confidential nature of these proceedings, I cannot say who will be called as a witness, or what testimony will be expected. Once the presentation has been made and a decision has been made, I will inform the public and the media. »
explains Michael Tantillo.

“I respect the time and effort made by the prosecutor and the sheriff in their investigations. I will continue to cooperate. » Stewart said in a press release. The driver of the No. 14 Chevrolet SS is expected to compete in the second race of the 2014 Chase next weekend in Loudon, New Hampshire, remaining on the entry list for the event.
