Max Verstappen is launching his assault on the 24 Hours of Nürburgring (May 14-17). Following his 2025 season, during which he raced on the Nordschleife with the aim of competing in the Green Hell, the four-time world champion of Formula 1 will participate this Saturday in NLS2, the second round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, a preparatory championship for the 24-hour race. Initially, it was the second round, as the opening round scheduled for Saturday, March 14th, was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

For what will finally be the true opening round of the season this Saturday, 26 cars will be on the starting grid in SP9, the event's main category. One of them will be particularly scrutinized, therefore, with Max Verstappen at the wheel. The driver Red Bull in Formula 1 will be driving a Mercedes Benz-AMG GT3 in Verstappen Racing colors and entered by Winward Racing. It will be accompanied by a very high-level duo with the Spaniard Daniel Juncadella and the Frenchman Jules Gounon.
“[The 24 Hours of Nürburgring are] one of the best races in the world, explained Max Verstappen at a press conference in Shanghai on the sidelines of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, held on Sunday, March 15It's also one of the best circuits. Honestly, with a GT car, it's the perfect speed for me to drive there. I think if you go any faster, it can get a bit dangerous in some places. I've been watching this race for a long time. I also know a lot of friends who have competed in it, and they say it's one of the best experiences ever. And I also enjoy racing other cars, so this is kind of the first time I've been able to really do it seriously. So I'm very excited. I'm also looking forward to seeing how we'll perform. There's a very strong field, so I'm really looking forward to it. »
To keep up with the trio of Max Verstappen, Daniel Juncadella, and Jules Gounon, you'll need to watch the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3, the same number used by the Dutchman in F1 this season. Many other drivers will be competing at the Nürburgring this Saturday, including Dorian Boccolacci (Porsche 911 GT3 R nº17), Mattia Drudi (Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO nº34), Sho Tsuboi (Mercedes-AMG GT3 nº47), Maxime Martin (Mercedes-AMG GT3 nº80), Raffaele Marciello (BMW M4 GT3 EVO nº98) and Mirko Bortolotti (Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO II), among others. The BMW G81 M3 Touring 24H will also make its debut in the SP-X category with Jens Klingmann and Ugo de Wilde.
