Premat tries the Australian adventure

The V8 Supercars is in Australia the equivalent of the Nascar to USA. It is, by far, the most popular automobile championship in this Oceanian country, the discipline in which the famous Bathurst 1000, the Gold Coast 600, and the Sandown 500, an event won in 2005 by Yvan Muller. While waiting to know if he will continue in endurance, it has already been announced that Alexandre Prémat will be at the start of the 2012 season. He will in fact fill the ranks of Garry Rogers Motorsport and will have Michael Caruso as his teammate. He will replace Lee Holdsworth at the wheel of the Holden Commodore, who moved to Stone Brothers Racing.

This choice is daring for the team based in the State of Victoria, due to the driver's inexperience in this discipline. But it is a desire carefully considered by his boss. “ We'll see if I'm a genius or... Some will consider it a risk, but I really think it's the right driver for the job, explained Garry Rogers. I thought a lot, did a lot of research and I thought that I could no longer take the risk of fielding a young driver. I need experience. The team has had many successes with young players, but no more time should be wasted on inexperienced boys. I need drivers who have a solid knowledge of technique and these cars which allow me to be fast on every lap ". Former Audi driver in DTM and in endurance, Alexandre Prémat also won the Zandvoort Masters in 2004. F3 and the Macau Grand Prix, before joining GP2 the following season. In 2006, he also took part in Friday morning free practice with Spyker at the Chinese Grand Prix.
