Puig: “A great reward”

After Yvan Muller in 2008, Gabriele Tarquini became WTCC World Champion on Sunday in Macau. An Italian succeeds a Frenchman in the competition's rankings but the same manufacturer, Seat, once again wins. By placing second and fifth in the two races in Macau, Tarquini won the title in the former Portuguese province.

The oldest winner of a world championship at 47 years old, the friendly Italian is the symbol of the formidable team spirit that drives the entire Spanish team, as attested by director Jaime Puig.

« Winning both championships for the second year in a row is the reward for a fantastic year and I would like to thank the team for their efforts, their great work capacity and their solidarity “, he shouted.

« The two races in Macau demonstrated that we are a team in which everyone works for the other. After the two titles won last year, we wanted to win at least one of the two trophies this season. In the end we won both, it?s an extraordinary result. »

Gabriele Tarquini will now savor his title and will soon decide on his future, just as his employer should do in the coming days.
