Six manufacturers in the running for the overall GT World Challenge

Now present on four continents, SRO is developing its global GT World Challenge championship. It brings together continental competitions, namely the GT World Challenge Europe, America, Asia and Australia, the latter making its appearance in 2021.

Only manufacturers compete, entering cars in each of the championships through customer teams. In each continental series, the best-placed GT3 car per manufacturer receives points, ranging from 25 at the sprint races to 100 at the Spa 24 Hours.

Scores are multiplied by the number of cars competing in each class to produce the final amount. In 2021, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche will claim the world title.

The upcoming campaign will represent the third season of competition for the overall concept, of which Ferrari and Mercedes have been faithful representatives since the beginning. Audi and Lamborghini made an appearance in 2020, while BMW and Porsche join the pack this season.

The brand to beat will be Mercedes-AMG, which has been crowned champion two seasons in a row. 29 races will count towards the championship this year, from the opener of GT World Challenge America this weekend at Sonoma (March 6-7) through to the conclusion of GT World Challenge Australia at Bathurst on November 26-28.
