TCR – Morbidelli achieves the double at Oschersleben

Gianni Morbidelli won both TCR International Series races at Oschersleben. Jean-Karl Vernay regained the lead of the Championship despite a retirement in Race 1.

TCR – Morbidelli achieves the double at Oschersleben

Gianni Morbidelli (Volkswagen) had a perfect weekend in Oschersleben (Germany) by winning pole and both races of the weekend. The WestCoast Racing resident scored his first success of the season at the end of the first event by winning ahead of a group of Britons made up of Dan Lloyd (Seat), Rob Huff (Volkswagen) and James Nash (Seat).

Jaap van Lagen (Volkswagen) had to settle for 8th place after being heckled at the start. The Dutchman finished behind Giacomo Altoè (Volkswagen), Stefano Comini (Audi) and Mat'o Homola (Opel). Belgian Frédéric Vervisch (Audi) completed the top ten between Danny Kroes (Seat) and Grégoire Demoustier (Opel).

Jean-Karl Vernay (Volkswagen) retired after falling to the bottom of the standings. The Leopard Racing Team resident was sent into a spin by Attila Tassi (Honda). the Frenchman returned the favor to the MIRA driver at the head of the Championship before the German meeting and suffered a drive through. Aurélien Panis (Honda) retired on the last lap due to engine failure while in 11th place.

 

 

Race 2

Gianni Morbidelli snatched victory in Race 2 to score a double by overtaking Mat'o Homola on the last lap. Jean-Karl Vernay completed the podium ahead of Daniel Llyod and Stefano Comini at the end of an event marked by a red flag following a pile-up involving Roberto Colciago (Honda), Giacomo Altoè, Rob Huff, Stian Paulsen (Seat) and Luca Engstler (Volkswagen).

Frédéric Vervisch took 6th place while Grégoire Demoustier finished 12th and last classified. Aurélien Panis was unable to take part in the race following his mechanical breakdown.

Jean-Karl Vernay leaves Oschersleben regaining the lead of the Championship with two points ahead of Attila Tassi. Roberto Colciago follows at 6 units.
