TCR – Opel Motorsport will get involved

The new K generation ofOpel Astra will serve as a basis for the development of a version meeting TCR regulations. The Astra OPC will be powered by a two-liter turbo engine, developing nearly 330 hp.

“Touring car racing has always been an important part of Opel, explains Tina Müller, head of marketing. The philosophy of the new TCR series corresponds to our idea of customer competition. We want to give private teams a platform at a reasonable cost. »

“We are very happy with Opel's decision, comments Marcello Lotti, TCR promoter. We knew they were seriously evaluating the TCR concept in recent months, and now this announcement adds another leading automotive brand to the world of TCR. »

Opel will find the Volkswagen Golf, Seat Leon, Honda Civic and other Audi TTs, already seen this year on the track. At the start of the season, Campos Racing occasionally entered two Astra OPCs initially developed by Kissling Motorsport for the German VLN series, with significant tuning problems. Spaniard Fernando Monje still managed to get a podium at Monza.
