Aragon, C1 – Guerrieri’s sublime comeback, Ehrlacher under pressure

So there is no such thing as “boring” in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) dictionary. While Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co) had taken a significant step towards the title after qualifying at Motorland Aragon (Spain) with the disastrous performance of his direct rival Esteban Guerrieri (Honda, 16th), it was ultimately the Argentinian who won Race 1!

The outgoing runner-up chose a daring tactic: starting with two rain tires on the rear axle of his Civic Type-R. Indeed, the Aragonese track, despite the return of the sun, was wet at the start of the morning.

It was a stroke of genius from the Münnich Motorsport team. Third after a lap and a half, Esteban Guerrieri then moved into second place, but could not consistently aim for the win, because he was half a dozen seconds behind his teammate and friend Nestor Girolami.

A team instruction and voila, in the final turn! “Thank you Nestor, thank you team. Even though we have less developed weapons than the rivals, but we will continue to fight” declared the winner.

Yann Erlacher is satisfied with sixth place, while he started fifth. His lead in the championship drops from 31 to 16 units while there are still two races remaining.

The first Frenchman classified is Nathanaël Berthon (Audi), fourth. Yvan Muller (Lynk & Co) finished 7th ahead of Jean-Karl Vernay (Alfa Romeo). Aurélien Comte (Renault) finished 14th.
